Situation: The patrol vehicle is hit by an IED, initiating an explosion in the crew compartment.

The ExAct Titan response: The two flame detectors in the crew compartment will immediately detect the explosion. The discharge valves will be activated in 3ms, releasing the fire extinguishing agent from the extinguishing cylinder. The nozzles distribute the agent rapidly and evenly throughout the compartment. As a result, the explosion will be suppressed in 120ms. The instantaneous operation of the system prevents pressure build-up and temperature rise, thus protecting the crew and the vehicle.

6x6

  • Vehicle type and role: Armoured personnel carrier, troop transport
  • Typical fire threats:
    • a penetrating hit to the crew compartment
    • a direct hit to the fuel tank
    • engine compartment fire
  • ExAct Titan system solution:
    • 2 protected compartments: crew compartment & engine compartment

Situation: The vehicle takes part in a military exercise. After the exercise, when the vehicle is parked and unoccupied, a fire breaks out in the engine compartment: leaking hydraulic fluid has come into contact with hot engine parts and starts to burn.

The ExAct Titan response: Line heat detector cable is routed through the engine compartment. As the hydraulic fluid is ignited and the fire develops, the cable senses a significant rise in temperature. The first of the two cylinders containing the extinguishing agent is automatically discharged into the engine compartment. As a result, the fire is extinguished and the damage is minimized. The system provides a second shot capability, in case a second fire should occur.

8x8

  • Vehicle type and role: Armoured fighting vehicle equipped with a turret, reconnaissance
  • Typical fire threats:
    • a penetrating hit to the crew compartment
    • a direct hit to the fuel tank
    • engine compartment fire
    • a fire in the electrical equipment compartment
  • ExAct Titan system solution:
    • 3 protected compartments: crew compartment & engine compartment & electrical equipment compartment

Situation 1: The vehicle is hit by an RPG-7. The projectile penetrates the crew compartment.

The ExAct Titan response: The two flame detectors in the crew compartment will immediately detect the penetration. The discharge valve will be activated within 3ms of the penetration, and the FM-200bc fire extinguishing agent will be released from the cylinder. The explosion will be suppressed within 120ms of the penetration. The instantaneous operation of the system prevents pressure build-up and temperature rise and enables the crew to stay inside the vehicle.

Situation 2: Following the previous incident, a turret servo motor which is located in the electrical equipment compartment is hit by a fragment and starts to burn.

The ExAct Titan response: The two flame detectors in the electrical equipment compartment detect the slow-growth fire in a couple of seconds. The discharge valve will be activated, and the FM-200 fire extinguishing agent will be released from the cylinder. The servo motor fire will be suppressed within seconds of the ignition. Expensive electrical equipment around the motor will remain undamaged and fully operational.

Military Containers

  • Container type and role: A 20-foot container, communication station
  • A typical fire threat: fire caused by electrical malfunction
  • ExAct Titan system solution:
  • 1 protected compartment

Situation: An electrical malfunction causes a fire in the container. At the early stages of a fire, a lot of smoke is being generated.

The ExAct Titan response: The smoke detector located closer to the faulty device detects the smoke. After that, the control unit activates the alarm unit and user interface unit that give an audible and visual alarm signal. In a couple of seconds also the other smoke detector detects the fire. A 10 second exit delay will start, leaving time for the personnel to release the fire extinguishing agent and exit the container. Because the container in this case is unoccupied, after the delay the system will discharge automatically. The Novec 1230 fire extinguishing agent will flow into the container, extinguishing the fire in its early stages. End result: the communication station remains operational.
